Wilma Jean Bridges, age 90, passed away on March 7, 2026, in Terrell, Texas. She was born on May 20, 1935, to Wilma Mae and Newt Issac Philpot in Telephone, Texas.
Ninety years is a long life, but even that doesn’t feel like enough time when it’s someone you love. Wilma was the kind of woman who built a family that stretched across generations. Her life began in a small Texas town in 1935, and from there she created a legacy that continues today through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To many of us, she was more than just a grandmother or great-grandmother. She was a source of comfort, wisdom, and strength. She was someone who loved deeply and cared fiercely for the people around her.
Family meant everything to her.
She lived through so many seasons of life—joy, heartbreak, change, and growth—and through it all she remained strong. The love she poured into her family is something that will continue long after today.
The truth is, a person’s life isn’t measured only in years. It’s measured in the memories they leave behind, the lives they touch, and the love they give. Wilma leaves behind a family that is large, connected, and full of stories about her. And that is one of the greatest legacies a person can leave.
Even though we are gathered here with heavy hearts, we can also be thankful for the many years we had with her and the memories that will stay with us forever.
She may no longer be with us physically, but her presence lives on in each of us—in the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the family she built.
Rest peacefully, Wilma.
You will always be loved, remembered, and missed.
Wilma is survived by her husband, Eugene Bridges; son, Garry Bridges; grandson, Justin McBride and wife Melony; grandson, Jared Bridges and wife Shaila Bridges; grandson, Jonathan Bridges; grandson, Jathen Bridges and wife Alicia; granddaughter, Kristie Todd with Brian Rust; also left to cherish her memory are numerous great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents; son, Terry Bridges; daughter-in-law’s, Karen Bridges and Nancy Bridges; and grandson, Derrick Bridges.
