Shirley Lou Edmonson-Powell

Shirley Lou Edmonson-Powell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed into the arms of her Savior on June 6, 2025, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on January 25, 1937, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Gaylord Harvey Edmonson and Gretchen Mary Edmonson, Shirley lived a life rich in faith, love, and community.

A woman of unwavering faith, Shirley found joy in her relationship with Jesus and was deeply committed to her church. She instilled the importance of faith in her family, ensuring that they remained rooted in the teachings of the word of God. Her love for her family was boundless, and she created countless memories filled with laughter and joy. Some of her happiest moments were spent treasure hunting at garage and estate sales with her sisters, where she found not only unique items but also shared laughter and stories that would last a lifetime. Shirley also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, often gathering with family and friends for spirited games of cards and dominoes, where her competitive spirit shone brightly.

Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Hargrove and her husband John of Terrell, Texas, and Terri Spoon and her husband Robert of Fort Worth, Texas. She was a proud grandmother to Robert Spoon III, Misty Morton and her husband James, Karen Kieschnick and her husband Audie, John A. Hargrove and his wife Cornelia, Aimee Starkey and her husband Lance, and Heather Atandare and her husband Andrew. Her legacy continues through her six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and cherished deeply. Shirley is also survived by her brother Bill Edmonson and his wife Mary, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and her extended church family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Rubye Terrell and her husband Jeff, and Betty Edmonson, who were her lifelong companions in faith and family.
