Nita LaFern Brooks, passed away peacefully at home on August 5, 2024, in Forney, TX. Born on May 3, 1935, in Colfax, TX, to parents N.T. and Ruby Lee Hendley.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Cleave Brooks, son George “Nicky” Edwards Nichols Jr., and brothers Afton “Earl” and Gary Hendley.
She is survived by daughter Terri Nichols Shepard of Forney, TX, Grandchildren Nicole Prewitt of Forney, TX, Trent Nichols and wife Angela of Terrell, TX, Natasha Nichols of Forney, TX, and Chisolm Shepard and girlfriend Sam Polege of Kemp. Great grandchildren Jordan and Mallory Prewitt; J.B., Logan and Karlie Nichols, along with nieces and nephews she greatly adored.
Following her graduation from Forney High School as Salutatorian in 1953, Fern held many jobs during her lifetime. She worked for Dr. James Biggart, private practice at Baylor Hospital for most of her career. She is most known for owning The Hair Shaft, waitressing at Gossett’s Kountry Kitchen, Las Trojas and ending her career at the age of 84 at AAA Bail Bonds.
Fern loved her family and friends deeply. She was passionate about watching the Game Show Network, crocheting, playing cards, working her crossword puzzles but most of all spending time with her family.
A celebration of Fern’s life will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Anderson Clayton Funeral Home, Terrell, TX.
