Imogene Flanagan

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved grandmother, Imogene Davis Flanagan, who leaves behind a beautiful legacy of family and devotion. On Saturday July 18th 2026, surrounded by a lifetime of love, God called her to her Heavenly home at age 102.

Imogene was born on July 18th, 1924 in Delta County. Her parents, Jack Davis and Irene Johnson, enrolled her and her sister Jackie Davis into Enloe public schools. Imogene worked in quality control at Texas Instruments in Dallas for ten years where through a mutual friend, she met and married James Wesley Flanagan. They moved to Terrell in 1963 and were married for forty-four years until his passing in 2007.

Imogene dedicated much of her life to the American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She sold poppies to raise money for club efforts and was the President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for a few years in Terrell. She also volunteered at the Terrell Care Center for many years, mainly caring for family and relatives.

Imogene had three children: Daughter Elizabeth Ann Embrey of Terrell, Texas, Daughter Jane Gaskill of Carthage, Texas and Son James Kent Flanagan of Terrell, Texas who passed away in 2020. James had a son, Donald Flanagan who was away in the Navy.

Imogene and James operated three local grocery stores in Terrell where they worked together for about 25 years. She knew everyone in town and local residents remembered them from the grocery store many years after they closed.

Of all the many jobs and volunteer work, the role she treasured most was that of "Grandma." Imogene leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness for family. She had five grandchildren who are: Pam Palmer, Tina Sandidge, Brandie Flanagan, Sandy Taylor, and Debra Covington. Imogene had thirteen great-grandchildren, and sixteen great-great grands, one step child, three step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. Imogene found joy in pouring her heart into her family.

Imogene measured her life not in milestones, but in the deep love that she shared with those around her. Whether she was knitting or quilting, tending to her garden,or baking her famous recipes, Imogene always made time to listen and offer a warm embrace. However, as loving as she was, she did not hold back on her competitive and playful nature to win against you in a strategic game of checkers, chess, dominoes or Wahoo. Her home was a sanctuary filled with laughter, wisdom, and comfort. Cousins have many precious memories of spending summers and holidays at Grandma’s.

Grandma’s many attributes included her loving smile and joyful laughter, her comforting hugs, her unconditional love, strength, and grace. Imogene’s legacy will live on through every story we tell, every lesson she taught us, and every heart she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
