Dorothy Laverne Rains

Dorothy Laverne Rains, born July 17th, 1935, passed away early Monday morning, April 3rd, 2023 at the age of 87. She is survived by her only son, Donald Rains, Jr., her daughter-in-law Rose Mary Rains, and her granddaughters Nicole Rains and Danielle Rains-Walker, her grandson-in-law Kyle Walker, and her sister Jody Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Rains, Sr., her parents, Palmer and Beulah Reed, and her brothers Alton Reed, Tommy Kennedy, Wayne Kennedy, Leon Kennedy, and sisters Doris Kyser and Evelyn Wright.

Dorothy was born in Dodd City, Texas and later moved to Garland, Texas when she was working at Inter-Continental Manufacturing where she met the love of her life- Don Rains. The two married in 1959 and a year later they had their son Donny.

Dorothy enjoyed fishing, going to the casinos, and playing bingo with her friends Shirley Statts and the late Patsy Bayless. She also loved every minute she spent with her friends and family. Dorothy spent many years helping raise kids, not just her own. Dorothy helped her husband Don care for her sister-in-law, Nell Bostick and her brothers-in-law Lanny Rains and Billy Rains as they grew up, as well as her nephews Clint and Mark Rains, and her granddaughters Danielle and Nicole Rains at times. Her husband Don was known as the patriarch of the Rains family and she was always by his side ready to help her family at any time. Before she passed, she finally let her family take care of her for once and she was eternally grateful for her niece Denise Taylor and her nephew Mark Rains.

Services will be held at Campground Cemetery 20424 FM 986, Terrell, Texas 75160 at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 15th, 2023.
