Dorothy Marie Gross, a cherished figure in the lives she touched, born on March 2, 1933, in Terrell, Texas. She peacefully passed away on September 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, devotion, and a love for all living beings.
Dorothy's early years were spent working alongside her family on their farm in Forney, Texas, where she began picking cotton at the tender age of seven. After completing her education, she seized the opportunity to work for the esteemed lawyer Harley Morrison at his law firm located in the historic Anderson building in Terrell, Texas. This hardworking spirit continued as she embraced her role as a devoted stay-at-home mother and wife. A significant chapter of her professional life unfolded over three decades at The Terrell State Hospital, where she served as a dedicated secretary, contributing to the well-being of others with grace. Education was important to Dorothy, and she graduated from Terrell High School as part of the Class of 1949. Her lifelong commitment to helping others defined her character; she consistently put the needs of those around her before her own, offering support to anyone in need. Dorothy was known for her gentle nature and care, embodying the sentiment that she would never harm a fly. Her affection for all animals and creatures of the earth was evident, a trait that endeared her to many.
In addition to her nurturing instincts, Dorothy found fulfillment in writing poetry. She used this gift to express her history and share her experiences. Dorothy is survived by her loving son, Robert Michael Gross Sr., and wife Donna; her brother, Edwin DeMasters; son in law, Tom Sop; grandchildren Michael Gross and wife April, Angela Graham and husband Jeff; and great-grandchildren Levi Graham, Josilyn Graham, Cody Gross and wife Hannah, Cassidy Gross, Clayton Gross, Cortney Gladney, and Brittni Sallie. She also leaves behind her 7 great-great grandchildren: Hudson Gross, Hattie Mak Gross, Aniyah Gladney, Omari Gladney, Tarrance Gladney, Cameron, and Collin. Numerous nieces and nephews, including Carol, Debbie, Michael, Eddie, Eric, Samuel, and Vicky, also mourn her passing, alongside other beloved family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents E.D. DeMasters and Willie Mae; her husband, Robert Lee Gross Jr.; her daughter, Susan Marie Sop (Susie); sister, Kathryn Yingling; grandson, Jerry Michael Morris; and nephew, Johnny Bushnell.
